Square Enix just released its much-awaited game Final Fantasy VII: The first soldier. The action-survival game is an exclusive mobile release of the popular final fantasy titles. It is set before the events of the main game in 1997. It follows a battle royale system with additional fantasy elements.
While battle royale games are commonplace today, what sets the first soldier apart is its unique ability system. Apart from the classic weapons found in most battle royals players can also use magic, summons and other uncommon devices. Just as its name suggests, it brings the fantasy element to the battlefield, promising a unique gaming experience.
For those who aren’t familiar or caught up with the Final fantasy series and lore, here’s a quick summary of the plot. As previously mentioned, the first soldier takes place 30 years before Final Fantasy 7. Shinra holds a battle royal style game to select worthy candidates for the elite force. You play as a recruit as you battle it out with fellow prospectives of the programme to emerge victorious.
The gameplay follows the classic Battle royal system. The game starts with 75 players who need to battle until a victor is crowned. Players can participate solo or in teams for 3. As time passes, the battlefield shrinks. This forces the players to move closer to each other and thus engage in battle. Weapons and artefacts spawn randomly across the map and it is up to the players to seek them and put them to good use.
The First Soldier contains some breathtaking visuals. With 1st person and 3rd person POV being made available, players can take full advantage of the well-designed map. If you are a Final Fantasy fan, you may be able to recognise some of the iconic locations from the original game that are making a comeback in the mobile version.
Even if you haven’t entered the Final Fantasy universe yet, The first soldier is a great gateway to get familiar with the in-game world at large. So what are you waiting for? Head on over to give it a try today!
