Although the objectives of different games vary, the adoration for money, fame, and flashy items is a common thread among most of them. So it shouldn’t come as a surprise that many games have their main goal as possible treasure gathering.  And treasure gathering can come in all shapes and sizes – winning the lottery, or playing to haul in a big slot treasure playing Croco casino – each one to their own treasure.

Treasure hunting has always been a fascinating topic, and it has inspired several films, notably the hugely successful Indiana Jones series. However, numerous video games have also appropriated the theme and modified it to fit a narrative that establishes the gameplay.

Even though antagonists, such as dragons, are typically the ones to amass large amounts of wealth, there are several games where having a large collection of items is considered successful. A nice, old-fashioned treasure hunt will never be out of style, whether you’re gathering cash or plundering dungeons and ruins for relics.

If you enjoy this theme, here is a list of some of the best treasure hunt games of all time.

1. Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End

There are currently four Uncharted games available, which is a lot. Each of them has unique qualities that justify their inclusion on the best treasure hunt games list. Many gamers enjoy playing the entire series. The best of the quarter of the series is undoubtedly A Thief’s End, and with good reason.

This game is simple to understand and is cherished because of the fantastic array of characters that come together in one grand search for a buried treasure.

For the first time since Sam returned to their lives, Nathan and his brother Sam travel the world together as they look for Henry Avery’s stolen riches. Finding secret hints about the location of the hidden treasure requires players to follow certain steps.

The hidden city of Libertalia, which was a rumored pirate treasure hideout, is the ultimate level. Out of all four games in the uncharted series, this one has the best hunt and narrative.

2. Indiana Jones and the Fate of Atlantis

This game, set in the fictional Indiana Jones universe, sends the renowned treasure hunter on a worldwide search for the fabled sunken city of Atlantis. Indiana’s mission is to stop the Nazis from utilizing the capabilities of the lost city for military purposes since they are the storyline’s adversaries.

Three game modes are available in this point-and-click adventure: the Team Path, where Indiana’s companion Sophia Hapgood joins the player, the Wits Path, which includes challenging riddles; and the Fists Path, which emphasizes action scenes and fist combat. A lot of people consider Fate of Atlantis to be a genre masterpiece.

3. Ducktales

One of the greatest animated series ever created, Ducktales, centers on a wealthy old duck and his bulging coffers. So it was no surprise that a video game featuring Scrooge McDuck traveling the globe in search of lost treasures was developed for the Nintendo Entertainment System.

This wealthy old duck, first published in 1989, has his wits with him as he explores five exotic locations in pursuit of gold. Whenever he goes, his nephews are never far behind. They visit places like the Amazon and Transylvania to find these fabled treasures.

You can navigate the map and fight adversaries by pogo-sticking on them using an easy-to-learn combat system or simply baseball-swinging at them.

4. Tomb Raider

The first installment of the Tomb Raider franchise, which features Lara Croft on a worldwide search for three mysterious Scion artifacts, is unquestionably the most well-known hidden treasure hunt video game. In order to obtain the ultimate prize, typically a potent artifact, Lara must kill deadly animals while gathering things and solving riddles from a third-person perspective.

Since its release in 1996, the game has sold over 9 million copies and is regarded as immensely influential, serving as a model for several 3D action-adventure games that came after it. In honor of the game’s tenth anniversary, a remake was released in 2007, and the series got a rebirth in 2013.

5. Shovel Knight: Treasure Trove

It should not surprise you that Shovel Knight has the skill to excavate enormous amounts of money, given that his primary tool of choice may be digging up mounds of coins and gems or crushing skulls. This flashback, which heavily draws inspiration from Ducktales, mixes a variety of vintage gaming elements to produce a fantastic 8-level experience.

The game’s protagonist’s ultimate objective is to free his Shield Night from the grasp of the Sorceress. However, that doesn’t stop him from making money in the meantime. In order to reach the game’s conclusion, players must sift through numerous landscapes and gather a vast array of artifacts in this ’91 treasure hunt game.

Conclusion

There aren’t many decent treasure hunt movies in the market today, which might have something to do with technology. Classic treasure hunt movies feature a lot of on-the-ground investigation, moving around, digging into the earth, and rummaging through caverns.

They also have enigmatic locations, providing knowledge in remote locations that many people have never heard of or seen, or perusing stale libraries in far-off regions. Many of these tasks have become much simpler because of technology, which has its benefits.
