One of the most eagerly anticipated mobile RPGs of the year just took a step closer towards its global release as Ark Legends, from Melting Games, soft-launched today on Android in Canada and Indonesia. Pre-registration is also currently underway with a host of rewards available for those who sign up, including IRL rewards such as Amazon Gift Cards and AirPods and more thanks to the game’s ongoing Lucky Draw event.
As the studio’s debut game, the amount of content shown during the Ark Legends’ CBT periods has been extremely impressive so far. And to help new players get to grips with that content, we’ve put together the following article to guide you through the core steps to getting started.

Airship:
This is the very first location you’ll get to see in the game, with your lead character (Alex) flying aboard the airship of Captain Jacob. It’s also probably the area where you’ll be spending the majority of your time as the Airship acts as the central hub for all things concerning Hero management, all the way from equipping their Gear to their recruitment.
To recruit new Heroes you’ll need to utilise one of Ark Legends’ Summon Events. There are several types to choose from that vary according to the unit grade and element. You also have a choice of using a random gacha pull, or selecting the Hero that you’d like to receive. In the case of events where you select the Hero, you’ll have to spend some more Summon Tokens, but it can be well worth it if there’s a specific unit that you’re urgently lacking.
The Airship is also where you’ll find a rewards section where you’ll be gifted items for consecutive log-ins and achieving certain tasks as you advance through the main quest-line. And, if you’re happy to spend a few Gems or Soul Crystals, you’ll also find a shop called the Grocery which provides useful materials like Potions, Gold, and Summoning Tokens.

The City:
Ion City is a beautiful Tolkien-esque City where you’ll meet an interesting array of characters and complete tasks to advance Ark Legends’ story. The City is a large place to traverse, so if you ever get tired of roaming from one part to another, you can simply click the auto-path feature (when a task is active) by clicking on the Quest-line Caption on the left side of the screen. This will send you to where you need to go without you having to lift a finger.
Outside
The Outside is the dungeon mode of Ark Legends and consists of two areas: Forbidden Location and The Lost Sector.
These dungeons are an essential if you wish to farm more materials, or gain experience points for your Heroes. Ark Legends features a wide range of Gear types, resources, and items, so the developers have added a ton of different dungeon types, each well stocked with one or more of the materials you’re seeking.
It’s always important though to look at the strength attributes of the dungeon Boss before you attempt to tackle it, or else you’ll find you may risk losing the battle.

Heroes:
Heroes come in a variety of classes in Ark Legends, including: Mage, Tank, Warrior, Assassin, Support, Marksman, and Fighter. They will also belong to one of three possible Grades (B, A, or S). These Heroes will also represent a specific element type that relates to their faction. These elements are: Earth, Wood, Fire, Water, Light, and Dark.
Lastly, Heroes will have a certain Grade (A, B, or S) which determines their overall quality. Getting to know how these units operate, and how they’re best deployed in battle will be essential to advancing in Ark Legends. Fortunately, the formation system isn’t too complicated – Ark Legends requires you to deploy your Heroes along three lines (front, middle, and rear) so a little intuition will tell you where each unit will perform best.
Ark Legends also features a shared Mana system in which battle points are distributed evenly amongst your team during battle. This means that any one of them will have a chance to use their special ability. It may therefore serve you better to manually control the battle on occasion if you have an especially buffed Hero who’s special ability you’d like to spam.
