With the recent resurgence of the Pokémon trading card game and their prizes being hiked by a lot, The Pokemon Company announced their new game to play trading card game on your mobile devices. The newly announced app is called “Pokémon TCG Live” where you can collect and play with the collected cards.
The announcement comes as the trading card game approaches its 25th anniversary and is, in some respects, more popular than it has ever been. Even though there had been an old TCG game already available for smartphones, it’s outdated and the company instead of updating the old one announced a new one.
About Pokémon TCG Live:
Beginners will find Pokémon TCG Live to be a simple game to learn how to play. Additionally, this app will provide new challenges for current gamers to grow and test their abilities. Some of the most popular Pokémon TCG activities will be available to players. The gameplay includes creating decks and competing against Trainers all over the world.
TCG Live will offer personalized avatars, daily quests, and other free-to-play live service aspects like a battle pass. Players will also be able to transfer cards from real-life booster packs to their digital collection which is by far my favorite feature. This was also available on the original TCG Online app.

Given the nature of the game and the fact that it is based on trading cards, micro-transactions may be included. In-game purchases have yet to be confirmed by the Pokémon Company. Although they are unlikely to be avoided given that micro-transactions are present in all of their other apps. My guess is that they would let us spend money on premium avatar features or clothes and some premium cards.
The developers have also promised new content and features following the initial launch. In a statement, Barry Sams, The Pokémon Company’s vice president in charge of the Pokémon trading card game, said, “Pokémon TCG Live will go hand in hand with the tabletop version that fans know and love.” He went on to say that the game “welcomes a new era of digital play in which Trainers from all over the world can play together regardless of their preferred platform.”
Pokémon TCG Game release date:

The Pokemon TCG Live app will be available as a free-to-play game, marking the first time that this strategic game. It will be available on smartphones as well as tablets, PCs, and Mac devices. Later this year, Pokemon TCG Live will soft-launch on mobile devices in Canada; a global open beta for Mac and Windows PC will also be available through Pokemon.com later this year.
Overall, as a massive Pokémon fan, I’m more than excited to play this game. With the inability to physically collect the cards now, getting to collect them virtually and play with trainers worldwide would be a great experience. We will update you once we get more information about the game.
