Switchcraft: Magical Match 3 is a puzzle game that follows through a storyline of a magical world. This game is Wooga’s latest launch. Wooga is a german video game developing company that produced many games like adventure, puzzle, mystery, hidden object, etc. And all of its games have received good reviews and have 4+ ratings too. What is Switchcraft: Magical Match 3 all about?
The story takes place in ‘Pendle Hill’, the top academy for witches. You play the role ‘Bailey’ who is a witch. Since it’s a story-based game, hence there are many chapters that continue the story step by step. The first chapter which is chapter 0 is a prologue of the story. The story begins with Bailey meditating and getting a vision of her friend ‘Lydia’ trapped in ice and saying ‘Far away… beware’. Unable to understand the meaning, she doesn’t do anything until later when she joins the pieces and makes a move to protect your friend. But unexpectedly Bailey still failed to protect her. Now the Story revolves around saving Lydia who went missing by going on an adventurous magical journey and solving the mystery.
Switchcraft: Magical Match 3 is a free-to-play, online, story-based game that features a match-three puzzle. But it is also an interactive game where you have to make decisions too. The game can be divided into two-part, one part contains puzzles and the other one contains decision making. By solving the puzzle you earn ‘Magicka!’ which unlocks the sub-chapters. Only after unlocking all these sub-chapters you can finish the whole chapter and proceed to the next one. The basic way of playing these kinds of puzzle games is to match three same colors and shapes of gems by switching their positions to bring them together. But the puzzle game evolved, now If you match more than three gems in different ways then you get a special gem that acts as a boost for the game.
Match-Three Puzzle Game:
Each match has objectives like acquiring some white butterflies or helping ‘fox’ to reach the bottom of the or many other goals. To achieve goals like this you have to do things like acquire white butterflies all you need to do is to match gems with a white butterfly on it but that too with a limited number of chances or help the fox reach the bottom by clearing out the gems below it. If you fail to clear a level, then you will lose a heart. you have a total of 5 hearts which takes 30mins to renew. There is also some special powers card, whose power is totally in your control, nothing happens randomly. Great help in desperate times.
Matching four same gems will give you ‘Boom Gems‘ which either clear out a row or column or clear gems of 9×9 area around the boosted gem. If you match four gems like in the shape of a square then it gives you a ‘Frog Gems’. It jumps across the tile to randomly clear a gem. And if you match five gems in the same row or column then it gives you a ‘Rainbow Pearl’. It has the power to change the color of any gem with the one you switched it with creating tons of similar color gems to make it easier. If you can match six gems in a T shape then you get ‘Colouring Potion’. It is the same as Rainbow pearl just a little twist. It changes the gem’s color into its color.
Decision Making:
This part comes along when you unlock a sub-chapter and go through the story part. There sometimes you have to meet characters and interact with them. The decisions you make are of your next course of action. This means you don’t get to choose what you say but rather what you want to do. Sometimes making the right decision leads to pleasing the characters. Though there’s no negative result that might lead them to hate you, it just there’s no effect. These decision doesn’t change anything in the story but it’s just a fun part for you to enjoy.
Dorm and Shops:
The rewards you get when you play a simple ‘Level’ are mostly coins and Magicka. If you have remaining chances after achieving the goals, then depending on the number of chances left, it gives you extra coins in exchange for these. In Dorm, You have a cat, and if you pet him then it gives you a daily reward chest. There are other things like a bookshelf which contains the summary of all the chapters you completed, a Freshman collection box where you collect things that hold memories, a plant that helps you get free Magicka and chest by watching ads, and many more. This chest contains rewards like coins or unlimited lives for a limited time etc. In the shop, you can make in-game purchases too.
There are some other types of things you might also need to do. Some other things like you might be asked to do are- trace the sigil to cast a spell, rub the crystal ball for vision, etc. These are part of the storyline.
Guides and Tips
- Don’t use coins on boost, until it really needed. Rather use them on buying special power card for help in desparate time. They are quite expensive.
- Don’t select boost before playing a match, sometimes you can pass the match without it helps. You will loose it even if it’s not required.
- Check on the cat once a day, it gives you your daily reward after 24 hours has passed. Otherwise you will loose the daily streak.
- You can collect all Magicka then use it all at once to end the chapter in one flow.
- Watch the ads for more Magicka and chest. You only need to watch 5 ads. After each ads there are some waiting time.
- Save your progress with your facebook account and also can activate Battery Saving mode.
Overall the game provides a full package. The mysterious storyline, fascinating 2D arts, calming sound effect, exciting puzzles makes the game more than perfect. With time the difficulty rises as well as the story becomes more interesting. They will teach everything at first. You will learn about the combo of the boosted gems. The game is highly recommended.
