Qualcomm has just revealed its latest flagship Snapdragon 888 5G mobile platform. This will work as a founding stone for the upcoming flagship phones and enable them to create features that you could not even imagine. Qualcomm claims that the new chipset will incorporate the world’s most advanced 5G, Artificial intelligence, Camera, Gaming, and Security Features. But being mobile gaming enthusiasts, let’s keep everything aside and talk about what impact it will have on Mobile Gaming.

Impact of Qualcomm Snapdragon 888 on Mobile Gaming
In Gaming, the performance jump this year is even bigger than what we saw in the last generation. Qualcomm claims that this new chipset is 25% better than the current flagship phones available in the market when it comes to the CPU. And 35% better in Graphics.
Smartphones to use Variable Rate Shading Technology
But with every new generation comes improvement, that is not a big deal. What’s news this year is a bit different. Snapdragon 888 will allow the smartphones for the first time to use ‘Variable Rate Shading,’ which is the same technology used in next-gen gaming consoles. In simple words, it will improve frame rates in mobile games.
Currently, when you play games, every single pixel is processed individually; however, with this tech, a group of similar pixels can be processed together. This technology is such a resource-saving that games would run 30% smoother, and this 30% is an addition to the already above-mentioned 35% graphic performance you will be getting anyway.

However, this will only happen when game developers integrate variable-rate shading into their games.
What More Snapdragon 888 Brings for Mobile Gamers
Qualcomm Snapdragon 888 provides more power, which means that you can download and open up any game, get to the setting, put graphics to its maximum, and still play the game at a silky-smooth 60FPS.
It will also boost the touch response time, which means the game characters will respond immediately as soon as you do an action, the delay will be minimized.
Qualcomm also claims that it’s more battery efficient, which no doubt it will be. But currently, if you run a game on a medium setting, then with this hardware in your smartphone, you obviously will play it at the top setting, which indirectly means that battery life will be pretty much the same.
Which Smartphones have Qualcomm Snapdragon 888?
Qualcomm has just revealed the Snapdragon 888 chipset during the annual Snapdragon Tech Summit Digital 2020. Therefore, currently, there is no production smartphone with Snapdragon 888 available in the market.

However, many mobile manufacturers, including OnePlus, Asus, LG, Nubia, Oppo, Realme, Xiaomi, Vivo, etc., have already announced that they will be using the chipset in their upcoming flagship phones starting from January 2021 itself.
