Everyone knows and has been waiting for the upcoming Pokémon Unite game, a completely new take on MOBA games. Developed by Tencent and published by The Pokémon Company, Pokémon Unite is a strategy-based, 5v5 battle game. It will be coming out on Nintendo Switch and on mobiles. The game went into beta around March. Thursday, on the official Twitter handle of Pokémon Unite, it was announced that the game will be launching next month, that is July, for Switch users and mobile users will have to wait till September to get their hands on the new Pokémon game.

A cinematic trailer was released on Thursday which showed a battle between two Pokémon teams featuring Pokémon like Lucario, Pikachu, Mr. Mime, Snorlax, Absol, and more. Check it out right here. It looks really cool.

The game is going to be free to play and you needn’t sit and keep thinking about what platform you should play it on. Tencent has confirmed that the game will support cross-play and you will have the ability to sync your progress across both devices. Now that is excellent news.

Pokémon Unite Gameplay

Let’s talk a little about the game. Your objective is to score as many as goals as possible in ten minutes. The team with the highest number of goals wins. But it’s not just Pokémon playing football. There’s more to the game. Since this is a Pokémon game, you’re definitely going to find Pokémon in the wild and you need to beat them in order to get ‘energy’. Deposit this energy into energy into your opponents’ goal zones and this will net you points. You will also get ‘Unite balls’ on killing these wild Pokémon, which can be used to score goals.

This way, you keep earning points and at the end of ten minutes, the player with the most points wins. Also, the last two minutes of the game grant you double points for scoring goals, so be sure to make full use of the final arc of the game!

You will begin with Level 1 Pokémon and they will improve themselves, gaining new skills and moves as the matches progress. You will also have handheld items you can use and rewards for winning matches. In-game currency exists in the form of Aeos coins with which you can purchase cosmetic items in the in-game shop.

Pokémon Unite Map

Coming to the map, Pokémon Unite takes place on an unexplored ocean island called Aeos Island. The island is seeded with a mysterious energy known as Aeos energy which can cause your Pokémon to evolve during the match. You will acquaint yourself with Researcher Erbie and Professor Phorus, who are studying this majestic island. The map has two paths with a jungle area in between. Bushes are spread along the path in which you can hide and plan your attack.

Eventually, as you go on playing, you will figure out your style of playing and before you know it, you’ll be winning matches all the time! But if you want to know more about how to play Pokémon Unite, be sure to check out our guide here and check out all our other news on Pokémon Unite here.
