If you’ve been following our Pokémon Go calendar for June you already know it’s an action-packed month. From spotlight hours, to regi raids, to the current Galarian Slowpoke event and upcoming solstice event, it’s all happening this month. To add to that, Team Rocket’s Giovanni has Shadow Zapdos in his clutches right now till June 17, 12:00 am local time. You must complete the Higher They Fly event to locate Giovanni and get your own Shadow Zapdos. But this current post will focus on the new legendary shadow Pokemon that Giovanni will have captured. From previous updates, we already knew he would capture another legendary Pokémon, but now we know who it is. Pokémon lovers, y’all are going to love this.
The Legendary Phoenix Ho Oh in Pokémon Go

Ho Oh is a legendary flying type Pokémon that made its debut all the way back in Gen II. Diehard fans will always remember Ash looking up to the sky and seeing the majestic Phoenix flying into a rainbow. What a beautiful sight that was.
This fire/flying type Pokémon is an absolute beast of a character with 239 attack, 244 defense and 214 stamina. This is not something you want to miss if you want a stronger arsenal. Because Team Rocket has captured this Pokémon, they have corrupted it to its shadow version similar to Shadow Zapdos.
How to get Shadow Ho Oh in Pokémon Go

Now that you know how strong Ho Oh is, let’s talk about how you can get this legendary Pokémon in Pokémon Go. Once the Shadow Zapdos event is over, it will immediately move onto Shadow Ho Oh and you will have until 12:00 am local time on September 1 to capture it.
For Shadow Ho Oh, you need to complete the Team GO Rocket Special Research, A Seven-Colored Shadow, which will earn you the Super Rocket Radar. There will be a number of things you will have to complete which will finally give you the Super Rocket Radar. You can find it in your bag once you finish the requirements for the quest. Equip this and it should show you the location of Team GO Rocket Headquarters. These will be marked as Black PokéStops that you can visit. You will have to beat some grunts which will eventually lead you to the final boss, Giovanni. To have a chance at catching Ho Oh, you will first need to beat Giovanni’s Shadow Ho Oh.
Do you want to sit at home and finish off all this? Because if you do, we have a guide for how to catch Pokémon at home right here.
It will be a tough fight to be sure to carry your best team with you. We may be able to help out a little here. Giovanni will always throw out his Persian first so pick a good fighting Pokémon like Lucario or Machamp. The next Pokémon could be either Kangaskhan, Nidoking or Garchomp. Kangaskhan is also weak to fighting-type so that would make the fight easier. For Nidoking or Garchomp, use an ice-type Pokémon like Darmanitan. If you lose, you can always fight again and pick your team accordingly. Now for Shadow Ho Oh, you definitely want to take a rock-type Pokémon like Rampardos or Tyranitar.
On beating Giovanni, a special rescue encounter will be activated. This is when you will get a chance to capture Ho Oh and if you are EXTREMELY lucky, you may even get a Shiny Ho Oh.

We can’t wait to get our hands on the legendary Ho Oh. The event begins on June 17 so be sure to capitalize on it and get your own Ho Oh. While you wait, check out our post on the current event- A very slow discovery to get your own Galarian Slowpoke and check out our calendar to know all the upcoming events in June.
