With less than 1% (1.7 million out of 221 million) of its subscribers playing, Netflix Games struggles to grow its platform.
In recent news, it is shown that Netflix is off to a very slow start with its new venture Netflix Games. It came as a shocker to many and in this feature, we will discuss the rise, plans, and current state of this new venture in detail.
About Netflix Games
Netflix games came online in November 2021 for its mobile users as part of their subscription. With this new venture, the OTT giant stepped into the gaming market and tried to excite its subscribers with new games for all types of players. Right now, Netflix has 26 games in its line up and each differentiates from one another so that it could give an inclusive experience to all of its players. The company also revealed that it has plans to increase the number to 50 by the end of this year. Since these games come with a subscription, it doesn’t have any in-game ads or purchases.
Netflix’s Slow Start
It still hasn’t been a year since the Netflix Games came online. While we can’t expect it to do great in numbers, the least it can do is put on a decent performance, but the numbers don’t add up well for the digital giant. Apptopia, an app analytics firm revealed that the gaming app saw only 23.3 million downloads. With 221 million subscribers, it has an average of only 1.7 Million daily users.
Even though Netflix did not disclose these numbers officially, it is to note that this comes right after Netflix loses nearly a million subscribers this year. These stats are obviously a huge blow considering the budget that Netflix invests into its gaming department.
As we said earlier, Netflix has plans to launch 24 new games this year to make it 50. Very recently in July, it released 3 new games Before Your Eyes, Mahjong Solitaire, and Into the Breach. They also plan to create a game version of some of their famous shows like Queen’s Gambit, Stranger Things, etc to pull in more crowds.
