Mojang Studios has just announced that they will shut down Minecraft Earth permanently in June 2021. Why is Minecraft Earthing shutting down? What will be the future steps? Let’s find out.
Why is Minecraft Earth Shutting Down?
The developers stated that Minecraft Earth was built around free movement and collaboration. Both of which have become almost impossible due to the pandemic situation. The resources spend on development of Minecraft Earth is not adding much value to the Minecraft Community, and it will be better to re-allocate these resources. And this is why they have made the hard decision of shutting down Minecraft Earth.

However, the reason mentioned by the developers is valid. But the primary reason for shutting down Minecraft Earth could be that the game never actually took off. Pokémon Go, released in 2016, was an instant hit. The game still stands as the best AR game on mobile, and it has managed just fine in the pandemic situation. On the other hand, even after being a decent sandbox AR Game, Minecraft Earth was never able to gain such attention.
When Will Minecraft Earth Shut Down?
Mojang has announced that Minecraft Earth will shut down on 30 June 2021. On this date, the game will be removed from app stores, and the servers will shut down permanently. Furthermore, on 1 July 2021, all the player data will be deleted.
