Recently, Raiden Shogun or Baal’s Teaser Video came out. Firstly, props to MiHoYo for another stunning teaser. Fun fact, in this teaser Aether, speaks more than Baal. But, leaving all that aside, the teaser video makes the reasoning for the Raiden Shogun’s longing for Eternity.
So, for all the Baal fans, we will be looking at the lore behind Baal’s Teaser Video, dubbed as “Raiden Shogun Nightmare”. Let’s get into it.
The Setting Of Baal’s Teaser
Firstly, we see Baal in completely different limelight, than what we can see of her in the present. In the first shot of the teaser, Baal is happy and contemptuous with life. She has something to look forward to. You can see three other characters with her.
This first set is very friendly and eating sushi. They are also having sushi. From here on we see how Baal transforms into who she is in the present.
About The Characters In Baal’s Teaser
Firstly, we have the Raiden Shogun or Baal herself. She has 3 companions along with her. Namely, a kitsune, foxes with intelligence in Japanese folklore. Followed by an Oni, a type of yokai or demon, in this case, an ogre. Lastly, a Tengu General.

Their names are:
The First Statement – Nothingness

After showing the happy setting of a portion of Baal’s life, we cut to her on a serpent-like object. This scene refers to the fight between the Electro Archon and Orobashi, the Serpent God of Watatsumi Island. Also, this battle came to be known as the Battle of Yashiori Island.
Fun fact – You can still see the remanets of the battle to this day. From the snake to the Musougin Gorge.
So, the battle was fought because people were suffering and Baal had to come to the rescue. In the battle, Sasayuri, the Tengu General might have met his/her demise. To be precise, Sasayuri disappeared. Now, his/her death is more or less confirmed by the Sangonomiya Chronicles.
So, it is safe to say that following the battle, Baal has a feeling of nothingness. She might have closed herself off, to not get hurt ever again.
The Second Statement – Stillness

But, all was not well, as tragedy is a part of life, so too did it affect Baal’s life. Next, we get to see about the Oni, Mikoshi Chiyo, another friend. Chiyo fought with Baal against the cataclysm. But, she was swallowed whole by a beast with a body of a tiger and the tail of a snake, Chiyo was stained.
Meaning that she was stained by darkness. She still was able to get outside by ripping the beast from the inside out. But, the damage was done. She changed, she tried many things, including cleansing herself, but to no avail.
Eventually, she drew her katana, blade, against the Raiden Shogun. Her katana is super long too. But, the outcome of the battle was easy to say. Baal defeated Chiyo, she cut off one of her horns and her sword arm. Following this battle, Chiyo fled and most likely was killed by a third party.
After losing another friend, Baal adopted a figure of Stillness. A degree of inactivity or keep to yourself.
The Third Statement – Eternity
Lastly, we have the Kitsune Saiguu. In the video, we see Baal who is standing in front of a Tanuki. Looking into the archive, we find a bit more about the Bake-tanuki.

Although they often tangle with a mysterious organization under the Shogunate, the tanuki is not a wicked lot and only tease humans for fun.
There is but one recorded exception: years ago, the bake-tanuki who guarded Chinju Forest started a battle due to some conflict between their leader Ioroi and a kitsune. In the end, most of the bake-tanuki were sealed within stone statues.
Archive
Here, Ioroi, the Hidden Protector of the Grove. With his main task to guard the Chinju Forest. He was challenged to a game of hiding & seek by kitsune. Here, this challenge was to distract him from the cataclysm, as Kitsune Saiguu met her end.
Following this change, Baal took on to a wish of eternity.
The Present Day Baal From Baal’s Teaser Video
Then, we cut to the scene where we see her being alone and be herself. She was cold, expressionless, mostly thinking of what could have been.
Then, she can see a mirage of her past self which made her recognize what all she had lost. So, naturally, she ran to reclaim all that. But, reversing time or changing outcomes is not possible. Then, depravity caused Baal to become a tyrant rather than a God.

As the closing, we see her in the void world, alone and by herself. The lore behind the teaser video ends here, and now we have to look into the future. What holds in the future?
Now, we know that Baal is the Electro Archon, meaning that she has the Electro Gnosis. So, most likely, her longing for Eternity might become her weakness. This weakness might be used by the Fatui to gain the gnosis. But, we can’t predict the future.
Ending Note
Baal’s teaser video holds a lot of lore from the game. The lore behind Baal is deep, to say the least. But, we will have to see what happens in the future. In the meantime, make sure to have fun and keep safe. Happy Gaming!
