Season 8 of Fortnite has arrived, and with it comes a slew of new cubes; as well as a slew of new map alterations. It means you won’t be able to predict what would happen next, like you did in Season 7. The map for this season has all of the same-named spots as Season 7; however, that doesn’t imply there haven’t been any significant changes. All of the new Fortnite map updates for Season 8 are listed here.
Fortnite Season 8 Chapter 2 Map
If you played Fortnite Season 7 all the way to the end; you’ll notice that the Season 8 map features practically every point of interest (POI) that we saw before. Sludgy Swamp, originally Slurpy Swamp, has been slightly changed; and Holly Hatchery has reverted to its original name of Holly Hedges. Every other location has the same name, yet they can seem extremely different on the ground level. Let’s look at why this is the case.

The Sideways
The Sideways is the most significant change this season. It’s a parallel universe with never-before-seen Sideways monsters. Consider it Fortnite’s version of Stranger Things’ Upside Down.
Players can enter The Sideways via locating Sideways Anomalies; which are gates to this strange dimension that can be found within the burnt orange map portions seen above. They can scavenge for Sideways weaponry, which are novel and exclusive sci-fi weapons discovered exclusively in The Sideways. They’re more powerful than standard Fortnite weaponry. Escaping with them will need you to deal with the Cube Monsters that lurk in this location.

The best analogue for Sideways Anomalies is Season 7’s Mothership gameplay, in which players could be kidnapped and taken aboard the Mothership for a chance at the best loot in the game, but getting out with such top-tier items requires a lot of skill and luck—not to mention the Mothership didn’t have monsters roaming around.
The zones in Sideways
If Sideways Anomalies are where The Sideways infects the island, Sideways Zones are when The Sideways infects Apollo, bringing The Sideways’ doomed look and perils into the loopers’ world. If you don’t want to go into The Sideways because of its existential threats, you’ll want to avoid these Sideways Zones as much as possible. These Zones will rotate from place to place with each map, similar to Season 7’s Abductors, providing variation and some surprise.
A thorough effort
On the first day of a new season, a Fortnite map is always only the beginning. Every looper on the island will band together in the fight against the cubes, led by new battle pass hero J.B. Chimpanski. This will express itself in modifications to the island brought about by collective decisions, such as the construction of turret stations to combat the enigmatic six-sided overlords. Players can use their gold bars to vote on future map modifications, invent new weaponry, and unvault past favourites by contributing their gold bars.

The Fortnite community will have to rebuild and retool in the face of a threat much larger than the aliens they’ve just managed to fight, as the Season 7 dish stations remain on the island but appear to be out of commission.
