Genshin Impact 2.1 update has been out for a few days now. While players are enjoying the new storyline and characters that have come along with the update, a new feature for fishing has been added to Genshin Impact. After the gruesome grinding and fighting against the enemies and bosses alike, this is a calming feature so you can experience the beauty of the world while fishing.
How can you unlock the fishing feature?
To unlock fishing, there are quite of bit things you need to do. You need to be Adventure Rank 30 or above and have the Serenitea Pot housing system unlocked. Once you’re done with those things, you’ll get a world quest called “Exploding Population” which begins by talking to Katheryne in Mondstadt.

It’s a quick journey that leads you to Nantuck, a Mondstadt angler who lives just outside the city boundaries. He’ll walk you through the basics before sending you out to catch a few fish to get you started.
How to catch a fish?
First and foremost, you need to make bait to catch the fish. You can purchase the blueprint for each bait by talking to the fishing association member in Mondstadt. There are four types of baits in the game, each catering to a specific fish.

For the mechanics of fishing, when you approach a body of water filled with fish, you’ll get an option to fish. You can select the fishing rod and the bait you want to use.
You need to hold and find a spot to cast your line in. When a fish is attracted to the bait, you need to hook it in. Once that’s done, a tension bar appears on the top of the screen. You need to keep the indicator on the tension bar within a specific area to successfully catch a fish. Because different types of bait attract different types of fish, it’s important to know what you’re looking for before you start fishing.

There is no set respawn time for the fishes, but they do come back after the reset, so for now it’s 24 hours. If we find more information about it, we’ll post an update about it.

The fish that you collect can be exchanged for various materials and the new polearm is added to the game “The Catch” and its refinement materials. Alongside that, you can trade them for blueprints or use them as meat for cooking. It’s kind of difficult in the beginning but you’ll get a hang of it once you play it over and over. Have fun fishing!
