Dr. Mario World, a game released by Nintendo will go out of service on November 1st, while the sales of its in-game diamond purchase will be discontinued from today. The game developed by Nintendo in association with Line Corporation, a popular mobile messaging app in Japan, was released in the year 2019, hardly surviving for a little more than two years after which Nintendo declared to take the game down. Dr. Mario World is the second app to be taken down by Nintendo after it closed Miitomo, it’s first mobile app back in the year 2018.
Nintendo took it onto the official Dr. Mario World website to share that the game’s service will end on 1st November 2021. Nintendo also furthermore clarifies that ‘an end of service’ notification will be displayed every time a player tries to start up the game preventing the players from playing the game. Players can still access their gamer history once the game servers are shut down. However, the company intends to release a web page namely ‘Dr. Mario Memories’ accessible after the game’s service ends, which will serve as remnants for players willing to look back on their player history.
Probable reasons for shutting down
The mobile match-3 puzzler game initially started off gathering 5 million downloads within 10 days, but somehow lost its prevalence over time. As per reports from SensorTower collected in early 2020, shortly after the game’s launch, it reveals that Dr. Mario World by far wasn’t doing well compared to other games in terms of revenue generation and so the game’s low performance could be a reason for the game’s termination.
The company’s big hit, most successful game till date is the Fire Emblem Heroes, which generates greater revenue compared to other titles combined. Nintendo has gifted players, games like Mario Kart and Pokemon that later turned into successful mobile spinoffs. However, the developer company hasn’t disseminated any information regarding shutting down of the game.
