Contra Always had a cult following as Konami introduced this action-packed 2-player game on joystick console and it blew up bigger than any other game at that time imaginable, with nail-biting levels which keep you on the edge of your seat along with an absurd power system. this game delivered everything a gamer can ask for at such a large and accessible scale.

And now 30 years later Garena took upon the role of returning this gem to us so that the new gamers get to experience this game’s nostalgic element as well. so that new gamers aren’t robbed from this game amazing experience

Gameplay & Narrative:
The word contra holds weight in the gaming community and they had to fill in big shoes So mistakes were out of the question.

The game had a heavy upgrade with the graphics, weaponry, characters, environment, etc. The game operates identically with the joystick on the side and basic commands on the screen like Jump, Fire, etc.
It starts with a tutorial to teach us the basics of the game along with new add-on elements. And new game modes are also introduced which unlock on certain levels like:
- PvP
- Daily
- Arena
- Story
- Challenge
- Duo
- Ranked Match
- 1v1 Hero Battlefield
- 1v1 Warm-up
- 2v2 Ultra Rapid Fire
- 3v3 Fort Battle.
After that we can just decide and jump into the game, the game starts with our comrade giving us the details about the mission like our objectives and hints after that we are dropped into the enemy zone, and just like traditional contra we immediately start to blast our way through every enemy and obstacle we see with our over the top guns and weapons upgrades we find along the way, with a final boss or waves of the enemy there is a variety of more than 200 different levels for us to complete which get more and more difficult along with the level.

Conclusion:
Personally, someone who has spent their entire childhood playing contra this new entry does not give off the same feel as the previous game, instead of being a sequel Contra returns feels like an entirely new game in itself, the game does not slack off or has any areas you can complain about but it misses the element which was first found in the original Contra. while contra stripped you off of any external help aside from the given lives this game has in-game currency along with customizability and second life and revive which kills the thrill which Contra initially gave birth to, keeping that in mind we have to consider that with the coming day and age games like Contra couldn’t survive long, as players would rage quit and get frustrated with a few repetitive elements we were always stuck upon.
So, Contra Returns has its own perks as it follows the new generation of console gaming and an amazing soundtrack along with vivid characters and a similar nostalgic art style which makes it a solid game in itself. as both these games have been released in 2 entirely different times players who have had the opportunity to play both these games have the luck to experience the best of both worlds and nothing compares to 2 guys making their way across the map with heavy guns and insane bosses. so it is hard to tell which game is better as both the games serve their players perfectly in the given generation they were released in. But as a gamer, I would honestly recommend everyone to try Contra Returns at least once before jumping to the conclusion that it isn’t as good as the previous one.
