Happy spooky season everyone! It’s almost Halloween and what better way to celebrate than to play some horror games? There is no genre that can make you feel like horror games. Sure, FPS can provide some high-speed action and open-world games can take your breath away when you gaze upon a new horizon, but nothing can compare to the feel of running and fighting for your life in a horror game.
Playing iOS games is a wonderful way to keep yourself within the world of horror games no matter where you go. So, we are here to give you a list of ten of the best horror games you can find on the App Store! Some of these games need to be accessed through a paywall, so make sure to grab some iTunes Gift Cards from OffGamers here today!
1 Layers of Fear

In late 2019, Layers of Fear was brought to the App Store. The game still looks gorgeous in 2022 despite being almost 4 years old. It happens to play great on the touchscreen and it is even bringing full controller support.
You play as a painter who has gone insane in his mansion after a tragic event. Layers of Fear is both a horror game and an interactive art piece. In fact, the game is inspired by masterpiece paintings, architecture, and designs from the 19th century. You can walk around and interact with the world, but soon everything around you will start twisting, dissolving, and changing as you uncover all of the secrets!
A highly successful and valued horror game that spawned a decent sequel as well!
2 Forgotten Memories

Here you play as Rose Hawkins who wakes up in a strange place and soon is on a mission to find the missing child Eden. The game combines elements of puzzles, exploration, third-person action, and survival.
Forgotten Memories is inspired by 90s games like Resident Evil and Silent Hill. Despite being released in 2015, the game was heavily updated in 2019 with full gamepad support, rewritten and improved controls, a 60 fps frame rate, and a massive overhaul of the graphics. It is pretty much a complete remaster, so without a second thought go give it a try!
3 Emily Wants to Play Too

Emily Wants to Play Too has you following an individual delivering a sandwich order to a research facility. The place lies home to three dolls recently brought to storage. However, they have a mind of their own and can’t let any witnesses survive seeing them. Players must explore and try to escape from the dolls and their friends. Later on, you will encounter Emilly, who joins in on the terrifying fun!
Emily Wants to Play Too is significantly larger than the original game with new characters, new gameplay elements, and improved graphics with an increasingly terrifying atmosphere. If you’re afraid of dolls, you might want to sit this one out.
4 Alien Blackout

There is nothing more terrifying than a Xenomorph hunting you down. Alien Blackout captures this terror incredibly well. You play as Amanda Ripley who is hiding inside the vents of a Spaceship.
You can use the ship’s emergency systems to help your crew survive the Alien on board. You can tell your crew when to run or hide, close doors for them, or use the motion sensor to track the Alien himself. Amanda is not out of danger either as at any moment the Alien can get to her!
A wonderful spin-off to Alien Isolation, Alien Blackout proves that Xenomorphs are always up-to-date horror-wise!
5 Little Misfortune

At first glance, Little Misfortune looks cute and beautiful but do not be fooled. The game focuses on mild horror from an eerie atmosphere and soundtrack. It has a comfortable but well-written story.
If you didn’t know, Little Misfortune takes place in the universe of another horror game called Fran Boo, which despite not reaching this list is also worth checking out.
Anyways, in Little Misfortune, you play as the imaginative eight-year-old Ramirez. She is seeking a special gift for her mother- eternal happiness. This goal is led by a mysterious friend of Ramirez known as Mr Voice. Together they travel in the woods, coming across chilling mysteries and strange people. A truly haunting experience!
6 Hello Neighbour Hide & Seek

Welcome to the prequel of Hello Neighbor. In the original game, you sneak into your neighbour’s house to discover what terrifying secrets he is hiding. However, in Hide & Seek, you will have to go through the events that cause him to actually become reclusive.
Here you start the game by playing the classic game of hide-and-seek with your brother as a way of dealing with the loss of a family member. Soon after, strange things start to happen and the game gets really creepy.
Actually, Hide & Seek is quite different from the original game, so prepare yourself for a totally different experience. We wouldn’t want to spoil anything for you either so make sure to try this game if you are looking for more spooky experiences!
7 The Walking Dead Series

Almost all of the Walking Dead Series is available on the App Store. In the series, you can play through the story of Lee and Clementine trying to survive in a zombie-infected apocalypse or play through the standalone adventure of Michone, the iconic blade-wielding character.
Each game in the series can make you feel like you are actually in the zombie post-apocalyptic world as shown in the TV series.
All the games are incredibly well-written, especially the first game. They all have a great comic book art style which allows them to run great on mobile as they are not that demanding. Playing the game with a controller will create an even better gaming experience!
8 Dead by Deadlight

Dead by Deadlight is an asymmetrical 4 vs 1 horror game that even though not specifically developed for mobile, was ported in 2020 to iOS. The mobile version is fully optimized with a more accessible and simplified touchscreen interface and controls and washed-away graphics for stable performance at a 60 fps frame rate.
You take the role of either a killer or a survivor as you play a deadly hide-and-seek game. Unexpected moments and jump scares await you at any given point. While it is fun to be playing with random people over the internet, it is even more enjoyable with friends as you experience terrifying moments with the people you know.
9 The Ghost

The Ghost is a first-person online horror game where players along with five teammates try to escape an insane asylum. This is far from an easy task and it is likely you will turn into a ghost before you even reach the exit.
The Ghost is played by 5 players. All five of you get spawned in the asylum. It is a dark and spooky place, where you are all trapped. Your goal is to find the objects necessary for your escape.
Even if you are good at finding stuff in games, be aware that you may not exactly be in your comfort zone as a ghost will also be on his way to finding things, more specifically – you!
10 Alien: Isolation

Despite being quite an old game (released in 2014), compared to others on this list, there is no way we could miss this one. Alien Isolation is one of the finest horror games of all time, not just in the App Store. Actually having it in the App Store is a miracle by itself and kudos to Feral Interactive for the perfect transition to mobile!
We already included an Alien game in this list, but Alien Isolation is miles ahead and is arguably the best game based on the franchise. Following the events of the first movie, you play as Amanda Ripley trying to uncover any information about her mother Ellen Ripley on the Sevastopol spaceship.
Finding yourself on this ship is not the most relaxing experience – hostile humans, android killers, deadly obstacles, and of course the terrifying Xenomorph awaits you around the corner. And all that is presented in one of the best graphics on mobile of all time!
To Conclude:
Creating a list of the best horror games is not an easy task. This is because a good horror game is one that truly scares you and leaves a scar in your memory that haunts you for days to come. Plus, the scariest thing for someone might be completely fine for someone else.
But even so, the games in the list above are quite diverse and there is a good chance that even if you hardly get scared at horror games, you might still find something to keep you on the edge of your seat.
