Night in the Woods has just gone live on iOS, completely unannounced. This is the game’s first mobile port, while it has already been released on a variety of other platforms since its initial release in 2017.
Night in the Woods on iOS is $5.99, making it by far the most affordable method to play. It’s only 2.1 GB in size, which is much less than the preceding releases.
Night in the Woods makes a sneaky appearance on Apple Store
The mobile port was announced last year, but little has been heard about its progress since then. The debut was completely unannounced before it went live on the Apple App Store today, with fans simply noting that it had been there.
The developer behind this long-awaited port detailed the process of getting it functioning on iOS in a tweet thread, noting that it had been a challenging task. “I’ve been working on this for, quite literally, years“, he remarked. “I’ve developed new approaches for compressing the incredible number of sprites the game uses so that it can fit into a phone. I’ve given three GDC talks about it. It’s been my project for half a decade“.
Developer Scott Benson tweeted a stream of comedy commercials for the port after the game was released in this new version. The game is shown running on an antique Nokia as well as a 1990s office phone in the commercials.
